Why is it easy for metals to form positive ion?
Metal dont have many electrons to remove, and have outer electrons which are a long way away from the nucleus so have a weaker attraction. This means not much energy is needed to remove electrons.

Why is it hard for non-metals to form positive ion?
Non-metals have lots of electrons to remove to get to a full outer shell. Their outer electrons are closer to the shell so have a strong attraction. Therefore they need to gain an electron from a metal ionically and form negative ions.

Metallic bonding which causes them to have similar basic physical properties

What are the physical properties of metals?
Metals are strong so they are hard to break but can be bent or hammered into different shapes (malleable). They are great at conducting heat and electricity. they also have high boiling and melting points.

What are the physical properties of non-metals?
Non-metals are dull looking, more brittle, aren't always solids at room temperature. They don't conduct electricity and have lower density.
