I'm thinking of something like reading The Jew of Malta just before The Merchant of Venice, or The Tamer Tamed after The Taming of the Shrew. I think The Spanish Tragedy, as one of the original splatter gore revenge tragedies, merits a read before Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus.
